2014 Year in Review :: Vancouver Island Wedding Videography

WEDDINGS

2014 was a year full of great weddings with so many unique couples. I feel truly lucky to work in such a beautiful place- Vancouver Island has lush forests, breathtaking ocean views, quirky farms and vineyards, stylish urban restaurants and cafes, and history. Filming weddings never leaves me bored, that’s for sure.

I’ve written a year-in-review for the wedding side of my business, to accompany my 2014 corporate video post found here.

—————————————————————————

In early ’14 I participated in the Westshore Wedding Show. Although the weather was miserable that weekend, I had a lot of fun putting my booth together and meeting couples and vendors! Thanks to Fresh View Events for helping with the decor!

March brought along Kim & Dan, and Sabrina & Bryan. Their weddings were held respectively at Arbutus Ridge Golf Club and the Inn at Laurel Point!

I filmed my first newborn video for Kate & Mike, one of my wedding couples from the previous year. It was really neat to see their family grow, and I hope to create more videos like this in the future!

I had the chance to visit Pender Island for two weddings this year, in the spring and early fall. I love filming on the island as it’s like a little getaway- I always go for a relaxing hike the next day to stretch my sore wedding muscles. I also enjoy seeing the animals that live on the island (mostly deer.) Denise & Tyler and Jen & Mike held their weddings at Poet’s Cove and both gave me the stunning light that I’m always looking for!

In February of 2014, in the midst of planning a wedding, Amanda & Farron lost their home to a fire. Thankfully their family was safe, but Amanda’s wedding dress, handmade decorations, and other items were destroyed.

When Sarah from Fresh View Events heard about their situation, she decided to step in and help- by giving them a wedding. It was held at the beautiful Kildara Farms in North Saanich and many vendors contributed with their talents. You can read the Times Colonist article here.

I was lucky to visit Tofino and Ucluelet twice this year for weddings. Adrienne & Kyle travelled from northern BC to get married at the Black Rock Resort. Teresa & James held their ceremony on Mackenzie Beach with their reception at the Tin Wis. I can’t complain! I look forward to accompanying more couples to Tofino in the future! (Please take me with you!)

Diana and Chris’ wedding was definitely one for the books (literally.) They decided to have a Lord of the Rings themed-wedding in her parent’s Sooke backyard. There were mild creative LOTR elements throughout, and it was a casual, fun day spent with loved ones. Diana contacted me after I filmed her stepsister Saira’s wedding at Poet’s Cove last year. I am proud to be their “family videographer!”

I had so much fun with Deedee, Chris, and their family!

Brentwood College is a beautiful venue in the Cowichan Valley, overlooking the ocean and Mount Baker. I had the chance to film there twice this year, and joined Peter & Fatimah and Jessica & Alex for their fun and unique weddings!

Melissa and Brett tied the knot overlooking the Pacific Ocean at Fort Rodd Hill, with their reception at the CFB Wardroom. I just loved all the blue hues of the ocean I got to film at their wedding!

In the fall of 2014 I was honoured to win the award for Best Videographer at the Vancouver Island Wedding Awards, put on by the Wedding Ring Vancouver Island. The winning entry was Keirstin & Ryan’s stunning Victoria wedding at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel. I absolutely loved Keirstin’s beautiful flowers by Verbena Floral Design, and the gold and blue hues throughout the wedding. There were so many personal and emotional touches to their day and I loved putting their story together.

The following two weddings had lovely elegant and classy themes, from Elana’s custom Grace Kelly-esque hairpiece created by her mom, to Tennille and Nate’s Downtown Abbey vibes. Elana & Jesse became husband and wife at the charming Starling Lane Vineyard. Tennille & Nate travelled from Winnipeg to get married at St. Ann’s Academy, with their reception held at the Union Club!

Sani & Ryan were married in Ladysmith, with their reception at the beautiful Pine Lodge Farm. Their wedding had a rustic feel, and the couple added unique, crafty decor to the outdoor reception.

I participated in two collaborative shoots with other Vancouver Island and Vancouver wedding vendors. The first was a moody evening shoot in Metchosin, with the other in Port Renfrew and the stunning Mystic Beach.

Charlene and Blake travelled to Victoria for their special day. Charlene always wanted a “castle wedding” and got her wish. I love getting creative in the Hatley Castle gardens!

Sarah and Gord’s fall wedding was held on Thanksgiving weekend in Vancouver. The cloudy day was perfect for video, and I loved the use of autumn colours throughout the decor. They even had Thanksgiving dinner at the reception!

The 2015 wedding season starts up again in just a few weeks, and I can’t wait to continue my storytelling adventure again this year!
